Back in 1900 there were about 100,000 cheetahs. Today there are only about 12,500 today and some experts even say there are only 10,000 maybe even fewer cheetahs left.
This rapid decline is because of inbreeding, very few babies surviving, habitat loss, farmers killing them. Often in the wild they are not surviving because with less space and less prey to hunt & having to compete for that prey with bigger predators like the lions and tigers.
Also farmers kill them by large numbers to protect their farm animals. Hunter poach them for their fir.
The cheetah is the oldest of the big cats, and has survived the longest. In past centuries people would capture and tame cheetahs and use them for hunting. As popular as they were for keeping in captivity they had very difficult times trying to get baby cheetahs. Rarely ever was there a litter born in captivity.
Educating our children about endangered species such as the Cheetah is the only way to save the species. Learning bout these magnificent animals is intriguing. Watching our children learn about this fascinating animal is heart warming.
If the cheetah is to survive and not be extinct VERY soon it is up to each of us to act NOW. Cheetah survival programs need YOUR help NOW. PLEASE adopt a cheetah and help save this species. YES one $30 adoption CAN and WILL make a difference. PLEASE consider adopting from this website today.
Because of genetic issues and DNA issues the cheetah is going to be much harder to save than most other critically endangered species. You can read about that on another page in our cheetah section.

The Cheetah Exhibit at the
Tulsa Zoo is GREAT!! A visit to see the Cheetah exhibit at the Tulsa
Zoo and Living Museum is very highly recommended by this website. The
exhibit has two fence free viewing areas. It is large and well laid
out. The Tulsa Zoo Cheetah exhibit also has four very nice looking
and informative signs. The water pool is gorgeous and there are high
places, trees, rock mounds a den... Again a visit to the Cheetah
exhibit in the Tulsa Zoo is a must in our opinion. -
