Adopted Scarecrows Move To Grant Beach Website
Hello, the Scarecrow is one of the most familiar figures of the rural landscape so we adopted three scarecrow brothers for our neighborhood website. The raggedy scarecrow has been recorded in rural history for centuries. We would like to introduce you to three new residents of the Grant Beach neighborhood. Their names are: Michael Scarecrow, Miles Scarecrow, and Mathew Scarecrow. Michael is the oldest and Mathew is the youngest. Miles is the one in the middle. These three scarecrows are brothers. They moved to Springfield Missouri from Billy Bear's Playground. That where we adopted them from. We would like to treat them just like we treat newcomers to Grant Beach neighborhood. We want to make them feel welcome. Well there is a very special way to make these three scarecrow brothers feel welcome at their new home on the Grant Beach neighborhood website. Wanna know what it is? LESSON: When someone new moves into your neighborhood, FIND a way to make them feel welcome! DON'T forget. Be sure to invite them to a neighborhood meeting or event! Well to make these Scarecrow newcomers welcome simply: Click on the Scarecrows with your mouse and hold on tight and drag them around the computer screen and drop them where you want them.Viola... they will feel very welcomed to their new website neighborhood.
Miles Scarecrow also wants to tell you: "Scarecrows have been used for 3000 years all over the world, and have been called by other names like the jack-of-straw, scarebird, tattybogle, shoy-hoy."
Michael Scarecrow would also like to tell you: "Hungry birds have always been a problem for farmers. Sometimes the birds ate so much corn or wheat that a farmer and his family would not have enough food to last through the winter." SO "Farmers get hoppin' mad when crows and other birds snatch their crops. That's why they started making scarecrows. They stuffed old clothes with straw. Then they put these scarecrow "people" on poles in their fields. Did the scarecrows do a good job of frightening the birds away? Maybe for a few hours. Pretty soon the birds were using the scarecrows as places to rest between meals!"
Mathew Scarecrow also wants to tell you: "Neither rain nor snow nor dead of night can make the scarecrow leave their post as guardians of the crops. They also weather the through the wind, sleet and blazing sun. They protect young corn in the spring; in the summer, beans and cabbages, in the fall and winter, the early plantings of wheat."
